When I saw this ad I was like “I.Need.It. Now”
I am not a fan of “applying lotion”. I do it because I don’t want my skin to be dry and rough and gross but I feel like it is quite time consuming to be honest. So I am always on the lookout for any product promising a quicker process or, even better, promising that I won’t have to apply it everyday.
Anyway, that’s the reason I was pretty excited to try Vaseline’s Spray and Go Moisturizer.
Vaseline® Spray & Go™ Moisturizer is a line of quick, convenient spray lotions that moisturize deeply and absorb in seconds. The revolutionary continuous spray-system dispenses lotion quickly and evenly for allover coverage. The unique formula includes Stratys-3™ multi-layer moisture so lotion absorbs into skin with a few quick rubs. Skin is instantly moisturized, not greasy or sticky.
Our Total Moisture variety is infused with pure oat extract for healthy soft skin in seconds!
Spray & Go moisturizers come in 3 scents Cocoa Radiant, Aloe Fresh and Total Moisture (with pure oat extract). They cost around 9.99$ (CAD) and have 184 grams or 6.5 oz of product.
WATER, ISOPROPYL MYRISTATE, GLYCERIN, SORBITAN, ISOSTEARATE, DIMETHICONE, FRAGRANCE, AVENA SATIVA (OAT), STRAW EXTRACT, POLYGLYCERYL-3, DISOSTEARATE, TAPIOCA STARCH, CARBOMER, XANTHAN, GUM, AMMONIUM, ACRYLOYDIMETHYLTAURATE/VP, COPOLYMER, STEARIC ACID, DIHYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, PHENOXYETHANOL, METHYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN, DISODIUM EDTA, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, LACTIC ACID.
As you can see the first ingredient, after Water is Isopropyl myristate. And according to TruthInAging.com a unique characteristic of Isopropyl Myristate is its ability to reduce the greasy feel caused by the high oil content of other ingredients in a product. This synthetic oil is often added to beauty products to give them a slicker, sheer feel rather than an oily one. There are many cosmetic ingredients similar in function to this chemical, including Ethylhexyl Stearate, Isocetyl Stearate, Isopropyl Isostearate, and Myristyl Myristate. Isopropyl Myristate is easily absorbed by the skin, ensuring quick penetration of a formula’s ingredients
Indeed the product is easily absorbed in the skin and does not leave a greasy feel. But in no way is the process as easy as the ad seems to suggest. She doesn’t even rub it it and, you will need to rub it in. Maybe not as much as your usual cream, but if will require to be massaged into your skin. Plus she sprays is very close to her arm, applying for a very narrow strip of skin to be covered. To get an all over application you would need to spray a few inches further from your arm or leg.
But in any way, the process is pretty easy, you simply hold the bottle a few inches from your skin and spray. A thin layer of lotion lands on your skin and you can now proceed to massage it in. The idea is, in theory, good. But in practice there are, at least, 3 issues.
1. In the process of applying the product the spray radius is a bit too wide. Therefore I ended up spraying product not only on my legs but also on the bathroom floor. I then had to clean the floor to avoid slipping on it.
2. The spray nozzle makes a very annoying acute buzzing sound. You may think it’s stupid but I always got a “what’s this noise?” from my husband when I used it and the buzzing honestly annoyed me.
3. Although it delivers a thin layer of product, you still have to rub it into your skin for a bit, therefore defeating the whole “Spray & Go” purpose as portrayed in the ad.
I like the idea but the product didn’t end up being satisfying enough to replace the process of applying your lotion from a bottle the good old way. What I ended up doing was spraying it in the palm of my hands then applying it…like any other lotion.
Onto the product itself, I liked its thin consistency, it does absorb quickly into the skin and leaves it feeling smooth and moisturized. I have dry skin and it did perform well for me. I think that it is a great option to use during the summer months as it is not greasy at all and absorbs easily.
Would I buy it again? I don’t think so. Do I think you should try it? If it’s on sale and you want to try something new, why not. The product is not bad at all, I just feel like the innovative packaging still needs a bit of work.
