I have never been a fan of make up removal. For one simple reason: laziness. When it comes to make up, I always found better things to do before going to bed than taking it off (like watching TV or…well, falling asleep on the couch). But of course, it was ridiculous to want to have beautiful skin all the while sleeping with makeup, pollution and dirt clogging my pores. But hey, I was young and dumb.
So at some point, three and a half years ago when a good friend schooled me on the (obvious) benefits of taking the foundation off my face before sleep, I started taking this “make up removal” thing seriously. So, one day, I just went to the nearest Shoppers Drugmart and walked through the cosmetic aisle. On one of the shelves I saw that Avène had a product I had never noticed before and it caught my eye because it wasn’t in the characteristic white and pink packaging that Avène is known for but in a clear bottle revealing the green product. Great move by Avène as it instantly caught my eye, differentiating it from their other products. Seeing that Avène is a brand that I had only associated with sensitive skin. And my skin might be a lot of things, but sensitive it is not, so I had never even noticed they had products for oily skin until I saw the green bottle.
So this product caught my eye and I proceeded to read the label. Here is what I discovered:
Avène Cleanance Facial Gel Cleanser is a soap-free cleanser that eliminates impurities and excess sebum without stripping the skin.
- Deep cleansing action purifies without stripping the skin
- PH 7.2 respects the skin’s natural balance, minimizing the trigger of excess sebum production
- Pleasant fragrance tolerated by sensitive skin
- Soap-free Avène thermal spring water to soothe and soften skin
- Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic
And almost 4 years after I started using this product, this is what I have to say about it: it does what it says. I bought it that day and have been repurchasing it every time ever since. It is mild, it cleans skin perfectly, the smell is pleasant, it lathers well and does not dry my skin. I simply love it. Plus, it costs around 20 $ for a 200 mL bottle that honestly lasts forever. I probably buy 2 to 3 times a year. And I use it every single day (at least in the morning…because you know I still skip make up removal from time to time..lol)
If you have oily acne-prone skin…try it. It is worth it. It will help you clean your face without traumatizing it and you will definitely be helping your skin if you have been, or are, struggling with acne and clogged pores.
For some reason I have never been curious to try any other Avène product, but I will open my mind to them and probably will give the Cleanance K Cream-gel a try if the damn milia seeds/papules/whatever they are on my cheeks don’t go away.
Now if you’re still too lazy to remove your make up at night (like I am at times), use the Avene Cleanance Soap-free Facial Gel Cleanser in the morning and check here my review of the Bioderma Sebium H2O Cleanser, it might just be what you need…!
