I have pretty thick very curly eyebrows. I have to shape them with tweezers, small scissors, correct the shape and define them with a pencil and sometimes set them with a brow mascara to get them to stay in place.
I used the Mac Cosmetics Eye Brows pencil in Spiked for a long time until I stumbled on the Maybelline Define-A-Brow pencil. I noticed it was also a micro-mechanical swivel pencil. The best thing about this type of pencils: they are always sharp! Whenever I need more product, I just push some out by turning the top of the pencil. The Maybelline Define-A-Brow in Dark Brown is, in my opinion, a perfect dupe for Mac’s Spiked but MAC’s goes for 19$ whereas the Maybelline version retails for 9.26$ on well.ca. It was no-brainer for me. I would never have tried anything else if the Dark Brown shade hadn’t mysteriously vanished from every store in town. That’s right. Disappeared! Maybelline’s PR team in Canada even told me that the shade was discontinued. *tears*
So I had to try something else. I purchased another Maybelline product, the Eye Studio Brow Precise pencil. I got it in Dark Brown as well. I liked it a lot: liked the grooming brush at the end of the pencil, liked the actual consistency of the product (the pencil is soft but not too soft, waxy but not too much). The result was natural and the application easy. Only issue? You guessed it! I had to sharpen it pretty often and that alone made me long for my Define-A-Brow. Until… *miracle!* well.ca had a sudden stock of Dark Brown pencils available AND a sale? It had to be my lucky day. I bought a bunch of pencils in case they changed their minds and pulled them from the site!
Lastly, I recently got the Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara and I’m not gonna lie. It’s not my favorite. I do like the fact that, contrary to what I experienced with clear brow gels, Brow Drama does not make your brows “crunchy” or clumped up and the brows do stay in place quite naturally. But the product is meant to not only shape your brows, but tint them in a single step. To get my eyebrows to look nicely shaped and properly filled in I had to go back in with my eyebrow pencil. Plus the dark brown shade was not dark enough for a noticeable result to be achieved with Brow Drama on its own.
So it’s a ‘Double Yay’ for Define-A-Brow, a ‘Single Yay’ for Brow Precise and an unfortunate ‘Nay’ for Brow Drama. Overall though, Maybelline’s brow products are worth giving a shot.
