I have recently received my first products to review and, needless to say, I feel like a kid in a candy store. Although I have professed my undying love for the Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm, I am a hater of routine and I will gladly try something new every now and then. Unfortunately, lips are, like acne and dark spots, another area of concern for me. They are often dry and my OCD of constantly picking at them does not really help. I thus ALWAYS have a lip balm on me. If I forget my lip balm or gloss I will get anywhere and buy the cheapo chapstick to make me feel better.I have recently received a couple of lip glosses and balms to try and I wanted to share with you my thoughts on them.
Kiss My Face SOS Dazzling Duo
The new Sheer Organic Shimmer collection is a set of tinted lip balms and lip glosses that come in six colors and there are many things to like about them. First and foremost, you gotta love Kiss My Face. The brand offers eco-friendly natural products and the SOS lip balms and glosses are no different as they are all-natural and 91% organic. They contain shea butter, Tocopheral (vitamin E), sunflower oil and peppermint oil which gives a very unexpected minty and tingling sensation on application. It is actually a good tasting and sweet smelling lip product as it also has Vanilla and Chocolate flavor oils in it. Apply it, drink a glass of water and it might even cut a chocolate craving or two…. I also loved the interesting shades offered and their pigmentation. The tinted lip balm gets very close to looking like lipstick (see a picture here). The lip gloss is also very pigmented and I actually love that about it, especially when it comes to the garnet shade (see a picture here).
Here are the downsides: for some reason the lipgloss is quite thin and runny. It actually seems to pour out of the tube as soon as I open it. Therefore, even though the shades and coverage are great, you need to reapply it quite often. The good thing, the lipbalm lasts longer. But if you’re looking for a lot of moisture and protection it might not be the best choice as well.
My final comment about the Kiss My Face SOS Lip Duo? It is quite inexpensive. If you’re like me and buy lipglosses like other people would get a pack of gums (I have lipglosses in all my purses and most of my jackets) I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a great color and a new gloss to have fun with. Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Tinted Lip Balm
There isn’t much to say about this lipbalm other than it’s pretty good. It is moisturizing and soothing, it doesn’t feel too greasy or heavy and it gives your lips a pretty reddish color. It is not overwhelming at all and doesn’t come close to the Kiss My Face lipbalms when it comes to pigmentation. Another thing worth noting: this lipbalm comes in a pretty big packaging that leads you to believe you’re about to use a jumbo lipbalm when it really is quite small (sized like a regular chapstick). I really like it and I will probably use it consistently as my favorite lipbalm for a little while but would I go out and purchase this one particularly again? I am not sure. Just because it is a regular tinted lipbalm. It actually made me think of the Labello Fruity Shine Cherry lipbalm that I purchased last summer in Dakar. Same reddish tint, same hydration, but with a slightly stronger cherry smell that is actually pretty pleasant. So I would actually recommend both if you’re looking for a nice simple and effective tinted lip balm. Only difference: Burt’s Bees is 100% natural, Labello is not. So I’ll vote for the BB after all.
Both lipbalms retail for a little under 8$
Mèreadesso Lip Treats
The Mèreadesso Lip Treats aren’t your regular lipbalms.
Lip Treats are a lush blend of evening primrose, grape seed, coconut and sunflower oils, enhanced by the added benefits of Vitamins A, C and E. They are a perfect primer for ANY lipstick, gloss or lipliner: they double the wear time without a hint of waxy buildup, and are sold by the pair in a handy reusable pouch.
Now I am not a regular lipstick user. I actually never wear lipstick and have always been jealous of girls that can get away with this kind of look. So, can I attest that the Mèreadesso Lip Treats will double the wear time of any lipstick, gloss or lipliner? I cannot. What I can say is that they are not heavy, they indeed do not leave any waxy buildup. I actually use them as lipbalms even though they do leave, right after application, some kind of a white residue. But it is absorbed after a few seconds so it actually doesn’t bother me.
Also, I have to say that It is not the most moisturizing balm you’ll even run accross but it does a decent job at protecting and nourishing your lips. I noticed that on the back of the lipbalm it says “clear/clair” I am therefore guessing that we might see some tinted versions of it in the future? I would definitely be interested in using a tinted version of this lip balm/primer. And, when I finally get out of my comfort zone and start rocking red lipstick I’ll definitely have my lip treat on.
The little pouch of 2 lip treats retails for 28$
