I discovered Nubian Heritage’s Goat’s Milk and Chai with Rose Extract Hand Cream thanks to a dear friend Sam (check out her fab Design and Lifestyle blog here). I was telling her about my difficulty to find a good hand cream: one that nourishes, softens, moisturizes and smells fantastic. Lately, all I had been able to find were creams that smelled fantastic but I was yet to find the perfect hand cream that would give me silky soft hands AND smell fantastic.
She had a tube of Nubian Heritage Hand Cream in her purse, I tried it and the smell was amazing. I’m not good at describing smells and perfumes but I would say that it is a slightly pungent smell, it’s musky and rich. Very very feminine but quite strong. If you don’t like strong smells in your creams than you should definitely steer away from this one. I personally love it, I apply it and the smell lingers for a while. It has a thick texture that I like, is a bit greasy but not overwhelmingly and I love massaging it into my hands. It’s like having a small aromatherapy relaxing moment in the middle of the day.
About Nubian Heritage
Born in 1992, Nubian Heritage offers “culturally authentic, all-natural facial, bath, body and hair care remedies made with certified organic and fair trade ingredients.“1 Other great thing to know, their products are not tested on animals and do not contain Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, DEA, PABA, Synthetic Fragrance or Artificial Colors (And you know I don’t like chemicals)
And there is a nice success story behind the brand too. Richelieu Denis and Nyema Tubman, originally from Liberia, fled the civil war and went to study in the U.S. They eventually had a hard time finding a job and turned adversity into opportunity when they decided to share the goodness of the shea butter soaps that they had grown up with in their home country. Nearly 20 years later, their two brands Nubian Heritage and Shea Moisture (that I’m looking forward to try as well) have become references in the USA.
Back to the Goat’s Milk and Chai Hand Cream
Is it the perfect cream? Alas in my opinion, no. My main complaint is that I even though this cream feels wonderful and does give me immediate relief, half an hour passes and I feel that my hands are dry again. It’s like I’m missing something. And it’s exactly the same problem I had with Rodial and Océange’s much pricier creams.
To be honest I’m starting to wonder if the cream I am looking for exists. I usually apply cream on my hands before I go to bed and I wake up in the middle of the night with the feeling of dry hands. Does this ever happen to you? Maybe what I’m looking for is a hand “treatment”. Do you have any suggestions?
But I love the idea behind Nubian Heritage and feel that, for a 100% natural cream that smells so fabulously good and that costs so little (8.87$) for a full 4oz/118mL, it is a great product. It definitely makes me want to try the other products of the brand.
