I always thought I had short lashes. When really they’re not that short. Mascara has never been my most important beauty purchase and I used to swipe it 3 or 4 times on my lashes then call it a day. But over the past year or so, mainly because I try to review mascaras, I am spending more and more time during my makeup routine on my lashes: with mascara and, more and more, with false demi-lashes when I want more of a pop. So I am starting to form real opinions on mascaras and, when it comes to the Maybelline the Rocket Volum’ Express Mascara, I like it.
Sidenote: While I am starting to form opinions they are not really elaborate ones, so this post might be short and sweet.
According to Maybelline “The supersonic brush with a rigid core and micrio-bristles loads on big, sleek volume instantly with zero clumps. The Rocket’s fast glide gellant formula contains micronized pigments and thickening agents for smooth even volume across the entire lash.” It is said to give you 8x bigger, smoother and even lashes.
First of all, you gotta love the mascara terminology. I mean, Rocket? Supersonic brush? Come on guys. Do we really need all of this to get excited about a mascara? I know there are a lot of competitors out there but there has to be a way to talk about mascara with terminology that doesn’t come straight out of Battlestar Galactica.
Anywayzz! Back to the review.
I usually have a hard time separating my lashes and not ending up with long clumped up lashes. I therefore usually have to take the time to get the brush at the root of my lashes and slowly wiggle the brush towards the tip to make sure the lashes are nice and separated. With the Rocket, I felt like I did not need to do that. It coats my lashes and leaves them separated and shiny with a few brush strokes and I love that. My lashes feel rigid but not hard; light and shiny. The mascara lasts virtually all day with no flaking.
Although the pink plastic applicator with tiny spikes is quite big, it allows me to apply a nice coat to my bottom lashes.
So I found that this mascara is great for daily use but, for a night when I want my lashes to go *ka-pow* and punch you in the face…this one is not it.
I have had a hard time layering it and making my lashes get more volume. But, for those of you who like to layer different mascaras, this one would be great for the first layer to separate your lashes elongate them, then another brand to add volume.
Overall though, I really like this one. It’s the one I have been reaching for every single day for the past month.
Would I buy it? Absolutely.
Let me know if you like it!
