I realize that I have been posting a million lip products reviews, but the drugstore brands have been very creative in the lip department lately and, honestly, I am loving it. Mainly because most of the new products that I have tried and reviewed lately have made me quite happy. This one too exceeded my expectations, read on to learn more.
I have received four shades of Maybelline Color Whisper by Color Sensational to try:
- Lust for Blush: a frosty pink
- Berry Ready: a pinkish red
- Pink Possibilities: a warmer shade of pink
- Go Nude: a sheer beige
Maybelline describes Color Whisper as pure color pigments suspended in a weightless gel. No heavy waxes or oils. Soft, sexy gel-color.
Strangely enough (because that usually never happens) I have worn and loved all 4 colors. Even the lighter colors like Go Nude and Lust for Blush that usually do not seem to suit my naturally pigmented lips work beautifully.
I also loved the texture of these lippies. They glide on beautifully, application is easy and they feel extremely nice on the lips. Right after application my lips feel moisturized and soft but, like most lip products, they can be pretty unforgiving on chapped lips, so you might want to make sure you hydrate your lips (with a nice slather of shea butter for instance, like I did) the night before. Sometimes even when my lips appeared to be hydrated, applying Color Whisper would reveal “chapped-ness” (I’m guessing this is not a word…but I’m sure you get what I’m saying lol), so again, make sure you hydrate them nicely.
Also, all of the shades are not created equal. The only dark color I tried, Berry Ready, is much more pigmented (I would even say that it is ideally pigmented: you need a single swipe to get great coverage) whereas the other three colors offer sheer coverage but with a nice bit of shine. When it comes to longevity, again, the darker shade stayed on much longer than the lighter shades. While I didn’t feel the moistness of the lip product I still had quite a bit of color left on my lips 4 to 5 hours in. With the other shades I have nothing (no color, no sheen) left after 1.5 to 2 hours maximum. So if you don’t like reapplying your lippie during the day, I’d suggest you stick to the darker hues. But really, the sheer coverage and moderately shiny finish makes these lipsticks perfect for soft daily makeup. Add a bit of color but very subtly, which is perfect for a simple daily look or to complement an ambitious, dark or colorful eye.
There are 20 available shades, you can pick them up in any drugstore for a little over 8$ (I will have to verify that…) Also if you are Shoppers Drugmart Optimum Points Addict like I am, you may want to know that you can get 15x the point if you purchase Maybelline products now and until Valentines Day (14th February 2013) More info here
