I think that if there was an international oily face competition, I’d be on the top 10. Left to its own devices, my skin starts producing sebum 30 minutes after being washed or blotted. So whenever I try a new matifying product, the expectations are quite high. I went to Sephora last week and asked for the best matifying product they could suggest and I was directed to Make Up For Ever’s Stop Shining + Matifying Gel.
According to MUFE, oily skins no longer require powder to give their complexions a matte finish. Stop Shining + eliminates all traces of shine from the face for several hours. Apply it before or after the foundation. Completely invisible to the eye, its soft, light texture is equally suited to men wishing to give a matte finish to their skin.
Stop Shining + is a thick gel containing volatile silicone oil and matifying silicone powder, as well as powdered silica spheres, silicone rubber and cotton bud extract.
I use it as a primer, after my moisturizer and before my foundation. Thanks to the silicones it helps prepare my skin for the foundation and the immediate result is definitely skin that looks more matte.
Now, for the million dollar question: does it work?
Well guys, I’m on the fence here. It does reduce oiliness. I shine less. But I still shine. And the point for me isn’t to shine less. It’s to not shine at all. Because if I still need to blot my face, then it doesn’t work. Sure, I am less shiny, but I am still shinier than most people and definitely more than I would like to. Plus I still have to blot my face every two hours. So for me, this one did not work and I will unfortunately not repurchase. But since it did reduce some of my oiliness I will concede that if you have normal to oily skin, this might help. But if you’re on the running towards become Canada’s Most Oily Face like I am, then I suggest you pass.
It retails for a little under 25$, which is also not cheap so…yeah.
Let me know if it worked for you!
