I have recently started filming for a new project and after a long day of filming I felt like my Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 foundation (that I still love and cherish) maybe needed a little boost. I felt like I could benefit from a foundation that would give me full coverage instantly. I am able to achieve full coverage with the Outlast but I do have to layer it on. Truthfully I just wanted an excuse to try something new lol.
So I went online and looked here and there. Went to Sephora. And came home with the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation in the shade 74.
Now some things here are absolutely true. It is a very thick formula, highly pigmented. A little bit goes a very long way. It provides superior coverage. It comes in 18 shades so you are bound to find one that works for you.
The foundation has a distinctive smell, reminiscent of paint almost. It does blend well but it requires a little work. I used the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and achieved good results.
The coverage is so good, I used it to conceal under the eyes as well. To me the finish is dewy and not matte like advertised. The first time I used it I applied the Lock-It Featherweight Primer under it to make sure I achieved the best results as recommended by the Sephora sales consultant.
The primer felt good on my skin. It is a light formula that hydrates and penetrates easily. It felt more like a light moisturizer to me than a primer as I did not notice any impact on my pores or fine lines. the foundation sunk into my smile lines like there was nothing on me. Bummer.
It did help the foundation glide on my skin but it did not do much else.
The biggest problem I had with the Lock-It Foundation & Primer combo was how it did not block my oiliness in the least. My face got oily fast…real fast. And while the coverage was great at first, I had to blot my skin so much, the foundation ended up looking patchy and uneven by the end of the day.
So it did not make my face flawless. Nor did it stay in place all day. Unfortunately, for a 42$ foundation I do not feel like it beats the 10$ Covergirl Outlast…at all! And that had me confused!
Now, not all of it was a disappointment! There was indeed a very good thing about the Lock-It Tattoo Foundation. The shade. The shade 74 is an absolute match to my skin tone. Better than any other foundation I have tried. Yes, even Covergirl’s Soft Sable. Unfortunately though I will choose a real matte finish over a perfect shade any day. Also, I really liked the packaging. The airless chamber means you will get all of the product out of the bottle. No product should be stuck at the bottom towards the end (like with Covergirl’s Outlast).
So, this foundation may be very good for dry to normal skin. For oily and very oil skin types this foundation is not the best choice in my opinion.
