I attended a few weeks ago (sorry, I’ve been slacking) the launch of Pupa’s new Spring Collections called Jeans & Roses. Gorgeous pinks and blues in eye shadows and nail colors, fab lipsticks and shimmery blushes. I have tried a few of their products and I predict that Pupa will soon become a drugstore favorite in Quebec where all the ladies can now find this brand at their favorite Jean Coutu.
I waited weeks to do this review because I wanted to get into the products and they have now entered my permanent collection. Pupa does good makeup folks!
I told you about my personal history and emotional attachment to Pupa as it’s the first makeup I ever owned, but I’m being very objective when I say that these are great products.
Here are my thoughts on the ones I have tried.
Illuminating Maxi Blush Duo – Luminous Matt Effect
On my skin tone it just illuminates. It is not pigmented enough to show any color on me but I still love it. I apply it on my cheeks and cheekbones and the effect is subtle and lasts all day. I have had comments on how “radiant” I looked and I believe it’s the Luminous Matt Effect at work.
But that might not be the real reason I love it so much. I think it has to be the smell. It’s the first time I use a makeup product that smells so great. It’s not an overpowering smell, it’s just a nice sweet and subtle perfume coming from the powder. I don’t know why they decided to add a scent to it but I love it. But, if you have sensitive skin or any issue with perfume it might be worth doing a test before getting it.
If you don’t have any issues…then you’ll love it.
Comes in two shades: 01 peach rose and 02 apricot pleasure
Satin Baked Eyeshadow – Double Wet&Dry Use
These have to be the easiest eye shadows I have ever worked with. They blend easily, pigmentation is great, no fallout. I have used them without a base and they stay on all day with little to no creasing. I was greatly impressed. So far I have only used them dry but will definitely try them wet to tell you how it works.
Now the only complaint about is the number of shades offered. They come in 4 shades: blue jeans, kelly green, grey silver and peach rose. I have only tried the pink and grey which are both very pretty but work best, for my complexion, when I use them at the corner of my eye or only up to the third of my lid. More than that and it gets a bit too bright for my taste. Maybe I really should try them wet…that might make a difference. But anyway, they have the regular collection that offers a broader range of colors that I’ll definitely try.
Jeans & Roses Lipstylo: Shiny Lipstick, Glossy Effect
Here’s what Pupa has to say about it: Lipstick packaged in a slim stylo, for a shiny wet look, with a semi-transparent, bright finish.
The gelée texture enhances the volume of lips and sublimates color with a crystalline finish.
With Cotton extract for soft and perfectly moisturized lips.
Everything is true except that it is quite pigmented. So don’t expect a “sheer-barely there-hint of color“. This lipstick pops! The color is bright, the finish is glossy, I was really surprised by it and I really like it. This one too is definitely worth trying and it will moisturize your lips. Also, seeing that it is so glossy and shiny it does not leave too much of a residue so when it fades (after a couple of hours) it does not leave a “dried lipstick” look. It just leaves your lips moisturized but with a tiny bit of a stain.
Comes in three shades 01 peony pink, 02 peach rose and 03 sexy red
I feel like this review is almost too nice to be true, but this is truly good makeup. I love it. It’s a bit on the pricey side for drugstore makeup but I have noticed that most brands are pushing their prices up so it ends up being ok.
