So I’ve never been the kind to spend a lot of money on brushes. For years I’ve had just one brush for my face (powder, blush, bronzer all with that one very cheap fluffy brush) and a small brush for my eyeshadow. Then, one day, I decided to go get one good brush.I don’t remember what got into me, but I just decided that I had to get a new brush.
So I went to MAC and asked for a nice brush that would be good for powder and blush. The nice lady at the counter gave me the the 129 Powder/Blush brush. Needless to say that I was totally shocked at the price. 34.00$ plus taxes. It was way more than I ever thought I would spend on a single brush. But I decided not to be cheap, and got the brush. Now I have used that brush for a couple of years and even went to the drugstore to get a foundation brush as well as a couple of other brushes for my eyes by Ecotools and Quo. I never felt that the angled, flat or shading brush really made a difference when applying my eye makeup but, then again, I never really got into any detailing or blending colors before so, indeed, my fingers were enough. So I kept using my brushes even though I did not really like it (believe it or not, the MAC brush leaves hair all over my face, and I hate that of course) but I wasn’t about to go get another brush.
But then came the makeup tutorials that I am totally addicted to now, and I saw three brands recurrently mentioned: MAC, Sigma and ELF. While I knew I wasn’t gonna get a MAC brush I had to go check Sigma and ELF and…of course, ELF won the price battle. Not only were the ELF brushes inexpensive but they gave me the opportunity to get a whole kit for the low-low and learn HOW to use the brushes properly before deciding to shell out on an Essential Kit by Sigma or, even crazier, on a 18K Gold 29 brushes complete Kit (Not happening…)
So I got the e.l.f. Studio 11 Piece Brush Collection. It costs 30$ and as a new customer, I used the 50% promotion and got the whole kit for 15$. I am in love with this kit. It certainly isn’t the best but, if you’re not a professional, are not looking to become one, but want to get the tools to start experimenting with make up this is the way to go.
I now apply my liquid foundation with the Powder blush (which many of the vloggers I watch are using – even though they own pro Sigma and Mac brushes) and I absolutely love it. I experiment much more with eyeshadows, play with colors and feel like I have what I need to do my make up properly. Plus having all these blushed makes me feel like a pro…lol
I also recently got the (even cheaper) blending brush form the regular elf collection, as recommended by a vlogger. Yeah ’cause now I’m blending eyeshadows and whatnot lol. Next thing you know I’ll be making videos…watch out youtube! lol
Anyway, if you’re a makeup lover and don’t feel like spending big bucks on brushes you’re not sure you’ll use yet…try this :)
