This summer, while I was at home in Senegal on vacation, it was so hot. So so so hot. I couldn’t believe how hot it was. To be able to apply my make up I had to sit in front of a fan. I had to sit literally inches from a fan for the makeup not to melt of my face as I was applying. I was a shiny mess. But then again I always am shiny. My face is oily beyond control and has been forever. Therefore i always have blotting sheets, blotting powder, shine control sprays and whatnot.
The only blotting powder I had ever used was MAC’s Blot Powder but since I have been feeling quite adventurous lately I decided to try a brand I had never tried before, Cover FX.
If you haven’t heard about Cover FX well I’m happy to be the one to introduce you to this canadian brand.

I picked up Matte FX a few days ago and I think…and I’m choosing my words carefully…that it’s better than MAC’s Blot Powder.
Matte FX is a translucent powder designed to quickly absorbs excess oil. It is fragrance-free, gluten-free, oil-free and comes in 3 shades; Light, Medium and Dark
Matte FX is translucent so you should not notice any change in colour when applying it but I have read some reviews of people saying that it has a orange tint or that it oxidizes (turns darker) but I have not had this problem at all.
I apply it before putting on my liquid foundation, then I use it to set my powder and really, I don’t feel like I need to add anything else.
Hours go by before I need a light touch up on my nose and forehead. I only touch up after lunch because it’s in my routine, but with this powder I just don’t shine at all. It’s the bomb.
I also like the price, at 22$ I feel like it is a great alternative to MAC’s Blot Powder (at 29$) and I am always happy to try new brands so it’s a double win really…
Now, there is one thing I don’t love about this product: the packaging. It’s quite boring and I sometimes have a hard time opening it, as the little button thing you’re supposed to push to open it up gets stuck. It’s not a deal breaker for me but, in the spirit of full disclosure, I thought that you’d like to know.
Let me know if you try it and if it works for you!
