I have always been interested in looking good. Even though I grew up surrounded by men (I only have brothers); I have always been a very girly girl. As long as I can remember I have seen my mother wearing makeup. Therefore, taking care of me never really was a chore or an obligation; it is just part of my life and routine.
So here’s how my cosmetic story began: I looked at my mom put on makeup, I copied her, played with make up at a young age and just for fun.
Then adolescence kicked in. And suddenly it wasn’t just for fun anymore
One word: ACNE
Yep, my skin got bad. Pimples. A lot. Not enough to be the worst case you’ve ever seen, but enough to get rid of, say, 50% of the confidence I had up until my 12th birthday.
Then my parents and I realized something else: my teeth were crooked. So…I got braces. And I lost 49% of the other 50% of confidence I had left.
But the good thing is that two years later the braces did come off and that, in the meantime, I had figured out a way to love myself and get others to appreciate me thanks to my personality and mildly inappropriate humor. And that is priceless (that and the privilege of having parents who care enough to invest money in your smile)
I am now two years away from turning 30 and acne is still a part of my life. Most of my cosmetic efforts have thus been dedicated to getting rid of it, hiding it or hiding the dark spots caused by it.
Thankfully though that’s not all. My cosmetic story is also a love story: I love make up, I love creams, perfumes, lotions, scrubs. So in regards of all the products I will talk about here’s what you need to know:
- I am black, of African descent.
- My skin tone if medium-dark
- Skin type: Oily – Acne Prone
- My biggest issue: acne scars and dark spots.
You’ll soon find out that I have many more cosmetic issues, but that, all in all, my cosmetic story is about discovering new things, trying and testing and, now sharing. I buy cosmetics based on the reviews I read online, I will never buy something unless I’ve read a review first…even if I sometimes chose to ignore the reviews I read…that’s why I decided to create this blog, to share my stories and help girls the same way I have been helped by others.
Hope you’ll enjoy this and please send me your ideas, comments and suggestions!
