I have, in my road to unspottedness, used:
- Salicilic Acid
- Peroxide Benzoyle (over the counter products and prescription grade)
- Accutane (two cures of 4 and 3 months)
- Isolaz (also known as vacuum laser)
- Diane 35 contraceptive pill
Although most of these treatments seem to work on most people, none of them really worked on me. I remember that after seeing my face resist the Accutane treatment my dermatologist told me: “I think you’ll have to live with it”. I think that meant “Don’t come back. I can’t help you”
Actually, Accutane did work quite well at first, but one year after each treatment the pimples came back. So, for me, it definitely was not worth the trouble since the treatment has very heavy side effects.
Back to the Clinique treatment.
I tried the Clinique Acne Solution Moisturizer and Toner after it being recommended to me by a cosmetic consultant at Shoppers Drugmart. I have to say that they both worked well for me and they are the reason I have much less acne now. Within 4 weeks of using both products I saw a great improvement on the number of pimples and they disappeared more quickly.
Step 2 of Acne Solutions Clear Skin System. Gentle, effective formula exfoliates to clear dead surface cells and reduce excess oil that can lead to breakouts. Unclogs pores. Oil-absorbing powders eliminate shine. Soothes irritation, redness without drying.
It contains salicylic acid which is supposed to help dry out pimples and contains quite a bit of alcohol so if your skin is sensitive I’d suggest you steer away from it.
It has quite a refreshing feel and it seems to clean skin properly: it will get rid of everything your cleanser and make up remover will have left behind. Is it good for your skin? I am not sure, but mine looks better. It is supposed to exfoliate a little but it does not go deep enough for me as it did not fix my milia and blackheads situation. (more on that on another post…)
The Oil-Free Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer
Here’s what it’s supposed to do
Step 3 of Acne Solutions Clear Skin System. Lightweight formula helps treat existing blemishes and prevent future breakouts. Creates a barrier against blemish-causing agents. Controls excess oil. Calms, soothes, reduces the look of redness. Lightly hydrates to minimize dryness, peeling
It does what is says. Very light formula, does not smell particularly good but I definitely got used to it. It contains Benzoyl Peroxide.
Seeing that Salicic acid and Benzoyl Peroxide are the most common and, some will say, effective acne treatments available it makes sense to use them both to get rid of the problem.
I am now 28 years old and have been using this combo for close to a year. My skin is much better. I have much less inflammatory acne. I now have one or two pimples every now and then and it is a definite improvement. My forehead and chin are now completely clear. Most of my problems are now located on my cheeks. I now have to deal with facial oilseeds and blackheads on my cheeks as well as large pores.
The Clinique products are quite inexpensive. The Lotion and Moisturizer cost a little less than 20 $ CAD each and last for a good two to two and a half months when used twice a day. If you have resistent acne, it may help you like it helped me. Let me know if it works for you!
