I love Christmas. I love gifts. I think they’re the best way to show someone you love them. I especially love surprises. I love giving gifts when there’s no special occasion and I love the surprise on someone’s face when they think: “How did you knoooowwww??!?!?!? ” So, if you have a beauty addict near you and still don’t know how to make her happy for Christmas, here are a few ideas that could help.
1. The OttLite Natural Makeup Mirror
I have a real lighting problem in my bathroom (the light is too yellow) and in my bedroom (there’s not enough light at all) So, for years, I have either done my makeup in the dark almost, or under the wrong lighting, a recipe for disaster as things don’t always look as good as you’d think they do when you do your makeup under yellow light. Having the wrong type of lighting has made it difficult for me to choose my foundation appropriately for years. So a few weeks ago, I decided to get it together and started looking for a nice makeup mirror to help me fix this issue. After scouring the web I found the OttLite Natural Makeup Mirror: a dual sided mirror with 5x magnification on one side and illumination that mimics natural daylight allowing you to not only see the true color of the makeup you’re applying but, with the addition of the 5x magnification, to really see if you have blended appropriately your foundation, concealer, blush and eyeshadow. Seriously, this mirror has incredibly improved the way I apply my makeup. I am much more confident when I get out of the house that I do not have harsh demarcation lines that I used to miss with my bathroom mirror and yellow lighting.
This mirror comes in fun colors, I would have loved to get the turquoise one with brown details or the hot pink one but unfortunately I got it online and only the black one was available.
It has a on/off switch on the base and an adjustable base. The mirror flips/rotates to change the magnification from 5x/1x. I use the 5x magnification mainly to pluck my eyebrows. I don’t use it too much because it tends to depress me by showing me everything that is wrong with my skin in waaay too much detail…and I definitely do not need that.
If you live in Canada, the mirror is available online on Amazon.ca for 99.99$ (including shipping and taxes). If you live in the States, you can also get it online on the OTTLite website for much less I believe (around 69.99$) with the addition of a 20% discount on your first purchase when you subscribe to their newsletter.
2. The Emjoi MICRO Pedi
I was sent the Emjoi MICRO Pedi for consideration and immediately thought it would be a pretty cool Christmas gift. Thinking about dry feet and callouses is definitely not the sexiest thing and it could be viewed as a “passive aggressive” gift if you consider offering it to your girlfriend or wife, but in the appropriate setting it can definitely work.
“The Emjoi MICRO Pedi safely and effectively removes dead skin and calluses. Experience a salon-quality pedicure at home with the MICRO Pedi from the personal grooming experts at Emjoi. The system’s unique micro-mineral rollers leave heels and soles looking and feeling luxuriously smooth.”
It is pretty easy to use. Insert two AA batteries in the battery compartment and simply turn it on. When I received it, the Blue (Extra Coarse) roller was inserted, but you have a choice between the Blue and the Pink (Coarse) roller. I figured that since I hadn’t had a pedicure in a while the Blue Roller would do a better job at removing the dead skin. When you turn it on the roller start rotating and you simply have to go over the heels and soles, spending a couple more seconds on the places where the skin is rougher. My feet are not really a problem area for me, but I did see the utility of the MICRO Pedi. It did get rid of quite a bit of dead skin in the for of some sort of gross powder lol. My feet immediately felt softer. Seeing that I have left the “mani/pedi salon” habit behind me a few months ago, I plan on using the Micro Pedi quite a bit to make sure my feet are nice and soft.
It retails for 49.99$ online on micropedi.ca. You can also buy it at your local Shoppers Drugmart if you live in Canada.
3. Sephora Collection Embossed Traincase
This is the gift I gave myself for Christmas last year. (Yes, I am on my own Christmas list…I believe one should love oneself! lol)
I don’t know a Beauty Addict who doesn’t have a storage issue. I know I still have a major storage issue when it comes to my beauty products even though I do have the Sephora Traincase. It helped a lot but it is only a first step (more on that later).
This traincase is spacious, sturdy, has a sleek and professional look. I store a few of my smaller eyeshadow palettes on the lower compartments and the lipsticks and lipglosses are in the top compartments. You can make them smaller or bigger by moving the separators on top. Last year I bought a very similar model for 69.00$ when there was a sale on sephora.com
Right now the Large Train Case retails for 132.00$ and even at that price I think it’s a nice purchase. Get it here
4. A Dressing Table or Vanity
Since I already own the three gift ideas I just told you about, you can imagine that this last one (which I do not own yet…) is on my wishlist!
Again, every beauty addict I know has a storage problem…unless she has a vanity or dressing table.
And the fun thing is that you can get one for little money. Enter our Swedish friends at IKEA with the Micke Table.
Sure Ikea has two products that they define as being vanities:
1. the Hemnes Dressing Table with Mirror which is way too small to hold any respectable makeup collection nor allows to have boxes under the table to store the extra, plus it retails for 299.00$
2. the Malm Dressing Table: this one is actually perfect, it costs a more reasonable price at 129.00$ BUT in this case, the problem is that it comes only in white, and I can easily see myself cleaning it every minute of every day whenever foundation or powder gets on it. And I do not like that idea.
So here’s what I suggest: the Ikea Micke Desk, not intented to be a vanity but has the same drawers the Malm has, costs 99.00$ only and comes in Black/Brown
With the Micke Desk you can place storage bins with drawers under the table, add a nice chair or stool and store all your beauty products neatly. See here this Youtuber showing us her makeup desk
So that’s a nice gift too if you have a Beauty Addict near you with storage issues!
Here’s for my first Christmas post! I still have a couple other ideas if you want to spend a little less than 50 or a 100 dollars, I’ll come back with a post about that soon.
Let me know what’s on your Christmas Wishlist!
