I have received, a few months ago, three Bioré Cleansers in the brand new Bioré packaging. Last Spring the popular drugstore brand replaced their good old green packaging with a brand new look: while keeping the same logo they ditched the green and got a brand new white and blue packaging that honestly looks quite good in my opinion. The new line is also color coded:
- Orange is for Complexion Cleaning
- Blue for Deep Cleansing and
- Purple for Make-up removing
I remember using Bioré in the past. I did not have a definite opinion on it: did not love it, did not hate it. As you know, my favorite cleanser for my acne-prone skin is Avène Cleanance and I’ve been using it for years. But now that I have this lovely blog I feel the need to try new products and see what else is out there. So when I received three different Bioré Cleansers I decided to use them all and let you know what’s up.
I have used the:
- Warming Anti Blackhead Cream Cleanser
- Steam Activated Cleanser
- Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser
Warming Anti Blackhead Cream Cleanser
This soothing, self-heating formula cleanses away pore-clogging dirt and oil as it helps control blackheads and prevent future breakouts. Effectively wash away stubborn dirt, oil, and make-up with a powerful formula containing salicylic acid and pore-opening warming clay. Oil-Free
I remember using another warming product in the past, it was the Olay Warming Pore Scrub (which has since been discontinued). I feel like the warming effect is sort of a gimmick with no real purpose other than make you feel like your product is active. When using it under the shower and applying it with my hands I can definitely feel the warming effect but mostly on my hands. I do not think that it can last enough to really open up your pores and dig out the dirt. When I used it with the Olay Pro-X Cleanser though, the warming effect lasted longer and my whole face could benefit from it and it did feel nice. So I did like the application process, the warming effect is quite pleasant and it does create some sort of special treatment to look forward to in the morning. I also liked the thick gel-like consistency of the product (it’s a blue cream/gel) as well as the scrubbing beads that weren’t to harsh on my skin.
Now for the blackhead control and prevention claim: I am not so sure about it. I do not have blackheads very often but I did have two very stubborn blackheads on my cheeks next to my nose for a few days (I had to finally extract them) and the Warming Anti Blackhead Cream Cleanser which I was using prior to the blackheads appearing did not prevent them nor did it help me get rid of them without having to go through a mechanical extraction (with my brand new Sephora Complexion Extractor)
But seeing that I really do not have blackheads that often anymore, I still thought it was a pretty good product for the price.
- The experience was pleasant: the texture is original, the smell is pleasant, the warming effect is fun
- It’s inexpensive
- It did not cause me any additional breakouts
- It does provide a good clean. Especially with the use of a cleansing brush
- My skin did not feel tight or dry after using it
Steam Activated Cleanser
Give your skin a deep and revitalizing clean with Steam Activated Cleanser, featuring SteamActiv® beads. This exclusive formula, with the power of pore-opening shower steam, dissolves dirt, oil and make-up and lifts them away—for a rejuvenating clean.
Again, I though the “SteamActiv beads” were quite the gimmick. This cleanser is a gel formula with little blue beads that dissolve when rubbed against the skin. The smell of the cleanser is quite pleasant as is the texture. It makes a nice lather that seems to help get rid of all dirt, oil and makeup. Again, I used it either with my hands making sure I got a nice lather before rinsing it out, or with the Olay Pro-X cleanser. Again, it did not cause me any breakouts nor did it dry out my skin.
Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser
Got skin that can’t make up its mind? Achieve the clean you want, without disturbing the natural moisture your skin needs. This cleanser removes all forms of impurities while leaving 90% of skin’s natural moisture, giving your face an even, all-over clean.
This one has to be my favorite of the bunch. It’s the only one that does not have any type of special effect (no SteamActiv beads, no warming effect). A very subtle scent, a nice lather (I like my cleansers to lather up nicely) and my skin was feeling extremely clean yet quite soft after using it. I really like this one and for no other reason that it is a great cleanser. I do not have combination skin, I have plain old oily skin and I like the fact that I really feel like my skin is moist and soft yet very clean after using this cleanser.
These Bioré cleanser perform pretty well. If you get bored easily and want to try different cleansers, you can definitely give these a try. I usually look for a cleanser that will clean my face while disturbing it as little as possible and I feel like these three cleansers all performed well in that aspect. Plus, they all retail for under 10 dollars. Definitely worth a try.
