I was lucky enough to be invited to try a “Bali Sunshine” Pañpuri Body Treatment at MBIOSPA. It was my first time experiencing a body treatment so, as I always am, I was extremely happy to try something new.
MBIOSPA is located in downtown Montreal, inside the Delta Hotel. Very conveniently located in the heart of the city, it offers a perfect space for people who want to take the time to pamper themselves after work.
The “Bali Sunshine” Pañpuri Body Treatment is a 90 minute experience that starts with a body scrub, followed by a warm shower to remove all the leftover scrub particles; the application of herbal compresses dipped in a warm energizing oriental oil and, finally, a massage.
It starts with a body scrub using boreh; a herb mixture with sandalwood, cloves cinnamon, ginger coriander and rice flour. The spices and herbs used in boreh are also supposed to support the secretions of toxic substances.
This mixture is pretty abrasive as is contains unpolished particles of different size and texture. That makes the scrub pretty rough. I would not recommend it if you have sensitive skin but if, like mine, your skin can take a little bit of abuse, then this might be good for you.
I didn’t feel like this was the most relaxing part of the treatment, but I was glad the beautician was working hard to get rid of the dead cells in my skin. After the scrub, I went on to take a warm shower to remove the scrub particles left on my skin and get ready for parts 2 and 3 of the treatment.
Sidenote: instead of spending a couple of minutes in the shower, I ended up staying a few extra minutes to enjoy the very funky colour-phasing shower light (see here)…Nice touch MBIOSPA.
This must have been my favorite part of the treatment. Extremely pleasant was the warmth of the pouches and the beautiful fragrance they were emanating…I loved it. By the time we moved on to the massage, I was super relaxed and fell asleep: and only a good massage can do that to me.
The entire treatment lasts about 90 minutes: 30 minutes for the scrub, about 5 minutes in the shower, 10 to 15 minutes of warm compresses and a massage of about 40 to 45 minutes.
The price is $129 and I believe it is worth it. You get a three step treatment and one and a half hour of attention for a price that is similar to what you would pay for a 90 minute Swedish massage.
Overall I recommend this treatment. I felt that my skin was nice and soft after the treatment. I didn’t see an overwhelming change on my skin’s appearance and you shouldn’t expect any after just 1 scrub, but I’d definitely do this again for the relaxation part. It is a nice change from the usual (but pleasant nonetheless) Swedish massage. This is a very pleasant relaxation treatment with nice beauty benefits. A nice way to pamper yourself.
