I love lipstick. But on people. Not on me. I am not used to putting on lipstick, mainly because I believed for a long time that lipstick did not fit my lips. I thought that my lips were too full and that brightly colored lipstick would be too much. Lately though, I have been inspired to try more and more lip colors but I still try to keep it sheer and light as I am easing into the process. I am not ready for this yet. But I’m working on it. So when I received three Avon Shine Attract Lipsticks to review I was happy to be able to try something new.
Avon’s Shine Attract Lipsticks are not your average lipsticks though: they have an inner core of color and an outer ring of clear hydrating gel that’s infused with Vitamin E.
So is it a lipstick? Is it a lipbalm? I’d say it’s a little bit of both.
I really love the way they feel on my lips. As you know, my lips are never bare because I have an OCD of constantly picking on them, so I try to have them always moisturized and covered to refrain from touching them. Shine Attract is so lightly pigmented that I felt very confident reapplying it a few times during the day without fearing a color overload.
As far as staying power is concerned I cannot say that it lasts long on my lips because, as much as I try not to, I am constantly biting and touching them… so it wouldn’t be fair for me to comment on that.
I like this product. To me they are a cross between a lipstick and lip balm, mostly because the colors I have tried are not very pigmented. See here swatches of Passionate Red, Wrapped in Raisin and Rose Bouquet shades (left to right) and, as you can see, the only color that is really apparent is Passionate Red. That’s the only one I can consider to be a lipstick and, at the same time, I still would feel more comfortable calling it a deeply pigmented lip balm. The color core gives a nice bit of color and the outer ring of moisturizing gel gives a bit of shine. All in all it feels really good.
It will retail for 12$ through your Avon representative, which to be honest, makes it a bit pricey I find. But if you’re serial lip balm/lipstick consumer and like to try something new, I’d say go for it. See here how all the colors show on a light/fair skin tone to have a better idea.
